Halloween Illo

A little vector drawing I did for the witching season. Unfortunately (as usual) life got in the way of me posting it on time. C'est la guerre, I suppose.

Sooper hero

Some more work I have done but didn't manage to get round to putting on my blog. I think a concerted effort to tighten up my regime is needed!!

Some more work

I didn't realise how long it has been since I posted more work. Must be more attentive as the Autumn nights draw in.

Big Brother 2006

I admit it. I'm an addict. I thoroughly enjoy this annual spectacle. I see it as a modern version of the ancient roman games. I have no compunction in hurling vitriol at these media whores who sign up each year for the fight to the death. Or bitch to the death as it is this year. Send in the lions I say.

The early runaway winner this year seems to be Pete. Despite his Tourettes he talks more sense than the rest put together. And despite his chosen arena, he seems like a very likeable bloke.

Pete is himself a cartoonist. So by way of support I want to post this.

C'mon, wee man!!

The Joke's Over

16 May 2006

Here is another illo put together as a break from work. I have several commissions on the go at the minute and some some proposals I've been asked for on caricaturing events throughout the summer here on the Oul' Sod. Impending wanton superhero violence is my way of relaxing.

Gotham Nights

Been networking today I building up my contacts list.

Also managed to sell my old car registration for £150. (the car's probably not worth that).

Anyway, here is the man made completely out of bats. It's interesting how dark the sketch looks on my PC monitor. It was drawn on the Mac & I use an old 21'' monitor with it. The colours are a lot more subtle there.

Anuther littleillustration I forgot to post. I must have had a Tex Avery Vibe going on that day.

Supes

A work in progress. I haven't drawn the Man of Steet before so I wanted to try a head & shoulders study.

The Black Coat.

On The Drawing Board website, Francesco Francavilla, a most talented individual, posted an Open Thread inviting contributors to post their take on his character The Black Coat. His comic has gone to press & I wish him well.

So here is my interpretation. All in Illustrator.

13 April 2006

It's late. It's always late when I turn to my blog.

Truth to tell I have had a lot of work on lately. I have been preparing tonight for a work meeting tomorrow which I hope will be fruitful.

I'll just post this work in progress. She is Ellen. This is my gift to her. At present she is on the other side of the world with doting mum & dad.

21 February 2006

Gerry Adams seemed the obvious foil to Dr P. I was struck by how much older he looks since the last time I drew him. Ian too, for that matter.

18 February 2004

Today (or really yesterday as it is now way past bedtime) was a day to start with some new political caricatures. I haven't done much of this since that last batch of mugs I designed. Please enjoy as I present the force of nature that is Dr Paisley.

16 February 2006

Some more caricature work. This time I have rendered the sketches completely in Illustrator. I find I get lost inside my own head when working on stuff like this. A great feeling of accomplishment to think I still get so engrossed.

15 February 2006

While I am in the mood for posting antiheroes here is Gotham's Finest.

15 February 2006

It seems somehow right that as I am posting Mega City's top Judge here that New York's finest - Judge Judy - is on television in the background.

This is all done in Illustrator and, unusually for me, all done onscreen. Usually I scan a thumbnail sketch first. But since I have grown up with Joe Dredd here since this month 29 years ago, I suppose I know him well enough. The best Dredd artist bar none is Ian Gibson. I hope you can see his influence here.

Late night here & the urge to create has taken over. I decided to flesh out a thumbnail sketch I did the other night. About an hour's work in Illustrator.

I like working at night. The telly is on as background noise and most everyone else is probably asleep out there in The Oul' Sod.

6 February 2006

In viewing other blogs it seems that a lot of fellow artists find it a good place to post their sketch work. Seems right to follow suit then.

This character you will be be seeing again soon methinks. He is the nasty little piece of work known as Po Boy. All genius and all bad.

1 February 2006

I visited Prague as part of my honeymoon.

On the Church of St Vitus there were some incredible gargoyles.
Thanks to a very good Zoom lens & my trusty Canon EOS I caught some in mid - well - gargoyling.

A little Photoshopping later and here you are. A tad Heavymetallish but there you go.

1 February 2006

About time I started a blog. Not sure what I'll find myself saying as this progresses but I'm sure I'll pick up momentum as I go along.

Meet fishboy.
